It’s hard to believe the Fourth of July is just around the corner—only four days away! We love celebrating with cookouts, time with family, and of course, fireworks. But in the days leading up to the holiday (and honestly, most holidays), we also like to slow down with some good 4th of July books for kids. Today I’m sharing a few of our favorite reads for celebrating Independence Day. Plus a fun, festive snack to go along with your favorite read-aloud.

Red, White, and Boom! by Lee Wardlaw
Red, White, and Boom! is a vibrant, rhyming picture book that captures the sights, sounds, and excitement of a Fourth of July celebration. From parades and picnics to fireworks lighting up the night sky, it’s a joyful read-aloud perfect for little patriots.

God Bless America by Irving Berlin
This charming picture book pairs Irving Berlin’s beloved patriotic song God Bless America with Lynn Munsinger’s delightful animal illustrations. This book creates a heartfelt celebration of our nation’s beauty and freedom. It’s a sweet and simple way to introduce young readers to a classic American tune.

The Flag We Love by Pam Munoz Ryan
The Flag We Love is a poetic tribute to the American flag, weaving together history, symbolism, and patriotic pride. With vivid illustrations and thoughtful verse, it’s a meaningful read that helps children understand why the flag is such an important national symbol.

George vs. George by Rosalyn Schanzer
George vs. George offers a fascinating look at the American Revolution by comparing the perspectives of King George III and George Washington. With engaging illustrations and balanced storytelling, it helps kids understand the fascinating history of the United States.

Weird But True! USA by National Geographic Kids
Weird But True! USA is packed with fun facts, quirky trivia, and surprising tidbits about all 50 states. It is a playful and educational read for curious kids. From wacky landmarks to wild history, it’s a perfect pick for road trips or patriotic holidays!

Every good reading session deserves a tasty snack, right? I like to keep it simple but fun—like turning fresh fruit into festive summer kabobs. The star-shaped watermelon adds just the right touch of Fourth of July flair, making this an easy treat everyone will love!

If fruit kabobs feel like a bit too much effort, you can still add a festive touch to a simple fruit board. I grabbed a pack of Fourth of July-themed cupcake toppers and just popped them into the fruit—easy, fun, and still super cute!

No matter how you choose to celebrate this Independence Day, I hope you get to enjoy sweet moments with your family—and take a little time to appreciate the freedom we’re so blessed to have. Whether it’s through a good book, a fun snack, or simply being together, may your Fourth of July be meaningful and memorable!
